Our Design Process and Tools

How do we come up with our designs and what tools do we use to bring them to life? That is a good question to ask but it is nothing special. Some of our designs come from the top of our heads while others come from seeing other designs. Sometimes just talking with someone stimulates new design ideas. When God gives you talents and gifts it comes naturally but to bring them to life takes a little more practice.

The Tools

Today we have so many technologies at our disposal to bring art and designs to life. I mean we now have “Artificial Intelligence” which is blowing my mind to see what that can do. And when I say bring designs to life I mean moving the design from your mind to paper and even moving that to digital which can then be printed. I come from the era of drawing on paper using sketchbooks and lead pencils. I used to love being at school and pulling out my lead pencil to draw. When I went to college for Graphic Design I was taught how to move my designs from paper to digital. That was my first time learning about Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Fast forward to today and now things are different.

How are things different now? Well, I no longer use sketchbooks or lead pencils which is sad to say. I either draw everything digitally using my Samsung pencil on my Samsung Fold 3 or just start from scratch on Photoshop or Illustrator on my Mac. I also use Canva which is free to try anytime you want. It is a great resource for those who cannot afford the Adobe Suite. It is also great for stimulating design ideas. So at this time, the tools I use are Adobe and Canva. I am a firm believer in using tools to help improve designs not using tools that do the design for you without you doing anything. We call that being lazy or stealing in my day.
